• COVID-19

  School will re-open on Wednesday 18th March but will close for a Staff Development Day on Friday 20th March, to allow staff more time to prepare for imminent closure. This work has already begun, but as you can appreciate, if the closure is lengthy, there is much to consider.

  In line with new Government guidelines, there will be no Assembly or After-School activities.  The dinner hall routine will also change, so that fewer children are in the hall together.

  We would also ask that parents and other carers avoid entering the school building.

  If your child has underlying medical difficulties, please seek medical advice and let us know if they need to stay off. 

  In line with new Government guidelines, please keep your child off for 14 days if they have a fever, persistent cough or difficulty breathing. Other family members will need to self-isolate also.   In this difficult situation, the health and safety of all in our school community remains our utmost priority and we appreciate your support.

• NI Qualifying Champions!

  A fantastic day at Killicomaine JHS where the girls' hockey team played superbly and were undefeated. They played a high standard of hockey and deserved this victory. Roll on NI finals!

  Due to developments in the local community, if your child is displaying any symptoms of this virus (fever, cough, shortness of breath) please keep them at home and seek advice from your GP or Public Health Agency-Call 111.  Please keep the school updated. 

  In school we will be reminding children about regular handwashing and not sharing bottles etc.

  Please reinforce these messages at home too.

  All surfaces which children are touching are already disinfected each day by our cleaning staff, who will continue this good practice.  Thank you for your support.  Mrs Taylor

• Active Travel competition winners announced

  Our latest Active Travel competition ended last week and our School Council chose 2 winners at random from each class earlier this week and gave out the prizes during World Book Day. There were a huge number of completed journey cards from those pupils who had made at least 10 active journeys over the 3 weeks. Well done to the winners and a huge thank you to everyone who entered and made such a great effort to make active journeys to and from school.

  

• World Book Day

  Well done to everyone for making such a huge effort to dress up as their favourite book character for 'World Book Day'. There were so many creative costumes and wonderful ideas linking with the stories we love to read on our own or with our parents and guardians. All of the staff looked great too! Congratulations to the winners in each class!

  

• NSPCC visit school

  We had three visitors from the NSPCC in school today. They talked to KS1 and then KS2 in assembly before carrying out workshops with the P6 & P7 classes. They told us how to keep ourselves safe and who to turn to if we need to talk.

  

• Charlie represents Bocombra at Cross Country NI Finals

  Today Charlie Rodgers represented Bocombra at the Cross Country NI Finals at the Mallusk Playing fields. There were over 200 boys competing in the finals and Charlie came 63rd, which is a very impressive result indeed while competing against the top 200 primary school runners across Northern Ireland! He did Bocombra and the whole cross country team very proud. Thanks to Mrs Rodgers for accompanying Charlie to the finals and for sending in some lovely photos.

  

• Our extension

  The builders are working hard, in all kinds of weather and the extension is progressing well so far. The assembly hall and computer area have been reduced a little in size while they work on incorporating the old building with the new!

• Old Lurgan Road Litter Collection

  The School Council started off 2020 with a litter collection along the Old Lurgan Road, a road that we have adopted and promised to keep litter free as part of the ABC council's Adopt a Street scheme. They found a lot of rubbish, enough to fill 2 bin bags and were very proud to see a lovely litter free road outside school - for now anyway!

  

• New after school clubs starting

  Crown Jesus Ministries visited today and using a puppet show they told us about their exciting new after school club Klass Kids which will be starting on Friday 17th January in our school hall. The puppet show was great fun and Mr Speers even got a chance to wear the thinking hat! Letters about this club have been sent home today.

   

  Dan also came in to visit and told us about his new after school club - Dodgeball. Some pupils got to demonstrate and four teachers also got a turn! The details have been sent home in the letter yesterday and Dan will be in school on Friday to collect forms and payment from any pupils who would like to join this club.
