• Visits to our local town library

  Year 6 kicked off our school visits to Portadown Town Library to find out more about having a library card, borrowing books, listening to audio books and using the library facilities. They enjoyed completing a quiz on what they learnt about the library and borrowed some books too. It will be Year 4's turn next week and then Year 2 for a special story. Happy reading everyone! 

  

• Local Author Lynda Haffey shares 'The Kindness Bird'

  We were delighted to welcome local author Lynda Haffey to school on Wednesday 23rd September to help us focus on Reading for Pleasure. Year 1 - 4 had the unique experience of having a real life author reading to them, with pupils and staff thoroughly enjoying listening to and learning from the characters in 'The Kindness Bird' story. Lynda also kindly shared her own writing tips with our Year 7 pupils in a writing workshop. Lynda, supported by Year 7 teachers and assistants, helped pupils to brainstorm potential new book characters in descriptive mind maps before writing rhyming couplets. Watch this space for future authors following in Lynda's footsteps!

  

• Lidl Green Fund Voting Dates

  Lidl Green Fund Competition Date Announced: Lidl have just announced that between Thursday 15th October and Wednesday 21st October, customers spending over £30.00 using the Lidl app, can cast a vote for Bocombra PS.  We are one of two finalists and with each customer only receiving one vote, every vote cast counts.  Thank you in anticipation of your support.

• Lidl Green Fund Finalists - we need your help!

  We are delighted to announce that Bocombra Primary School has reached the final stage of the Lidl Green Fund.  We are incredibly proud to be one of just two projects in County Armagh.  Public voting opens soon and will run for one week only.  If you are a Lidl customer, you can support our project by using your Lidl Plus App and voting for BPS when you make a purchase over £30.00.  Each customer only receives one vote, so please help us to spread the word and give Bocombra the best possible chance of winning.  A huge thank you to Mrs Cooper, Chairperson of the PTA, for submitting such an excellent application and getting us this far.  We are grateful for her hard work and commitment to our school community.  A flyer with more details will follow when voting opens.

  

• Mrs Reilly Retires

  Today we celebrated a wonderful teacher and colleague as we said farewell to Mrs Reilly.  Mrs Reilly has taught in Bocombra for over 23 years and even attended the school as a pupil herself.  We will all really miss her and we wish her a long and happy retirement.

• Final Assembly

  Today we said goodbye to a wonderful group of P7 pupils as they prepare to move on to secondary school.  It has been great to watch them grow and learn through their time with us.

  As you move on to new opportunities, remember that you will always be part of our Bocombra family ☺️

  

• Prize Day

  Well done to all of our prize winners today!  Thanks too to our guest speaker, Mrs Taylor, who gave out the prizes and encouraged us to continue to do our best.  

  

• Congratulations to Tom!

  One of our year 7 pupils, Tom, has had a big sporting year this year, winning the Northern Ireland Cup in football with his 'Portadown 2015' team. This is a huge achievement - well done to all the boys involved. Even more brilliantly he makes the move to Linfield FC at the end of this season to begin his journey into National League football. He has worked really hard for this and is excited for this next challenge. Tom, we are all very proud of you and your sporting achievements!

   

  

• Summer Music Concert

  Huge congratulations to all of our core music tuition pupils who performed superbly for their invited parents, grandparents and guardians. The forty minute concert showcased how talented our musicians are in Years 4, 5, 6 and 7. Our five EA Music Service tutors have worked diligently all year to help the children in Year 4 begin their tuition journey all the way up to Year 7, with pupils playing Grade 1, 2 and even Grade 4 pieces. Mr Vallelly thanked Mr McLean, Mr Bothwell, Mr Hughes, Mr Braiden and Ms McCann for being part of our Summer Concert today and for their dedication to our pupils, helping them develop their musical skills.

  After a very warm performance in our assembly hall, the tuition pupils did it all again a second time, for the whole school. Well done everyone!
