To add to our World Book Day celebrations and encourage our children to read as widely and often as possible, donations of children’s books for all ages are requested for the PTA and Eco Schools Pre-loved Book Sale. These can be sent to school next week. A stall will be placed at the front entrance from Thursday 6th March – Friday 14th March. A ‘honesty box’ will be left with the books – just pay what you can afford! All proceeds to PTA funds.
Each year the staff and governors review the progress made in the children’s learning and the school’s development, identifying areas of focus for continued progress in the future. This questionnaire is part of our ongoing school self-review and development cycle and helps us to devise a new School Development Plan.
Your suggestions and any further areas of development will be considered when prioritising this year’s School Development Plan. It is important that all members of the school community have the opportunity to contribute towards this plan. All parents, staff and governors are asked to contribute as, of course, are the children.
We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete this questionnaire so that your suggestions can form part of the school’s preparation of the new School Development Plan.
We are delighted to have the Travelling Books book fair in school from Friday 21st to Wednesday 26th February providing everyone from Nursery to P.7 along with parents and guardians the opportunity to browse and buy some new books and stationery. Everyone's support buying items contributes to points awarded to the school which the teachers can then use to purchase new resources for their classrooms.
This morning a group of Primary 6 & 7 boys and girls walked to Portadown College to take part in a rugby skills workshop. Alistair Toal, Portadown RFC CCRO and Portadown College coach, led the session. We joined Edenderry PS and Moyallon PS in learning how to fall safely in a tackle, how to tackle correctly and how to run and pass. The children had the opportunity to use equipment such as tackle pads to practise their skills. They also had a tour of the College facilities and they met some of the 1st XV players including a number of our own past pupils. The session was rounded off with some games outside on the pitches and everyone agreed it had been a fantastic morning. Thanks to Alistair and all the College players who looked after us during the session.

Before half term, our School Council were kindly invited to visit Craigavon Civic Centre for a reception hosted by the Deputy Lord Mayor and organised by Kate Evans, who happens to be the aunt of one our School Council members Sophie. We also got to meet another one of our local councillors, Julie Flaherty, who also happens to be an aunt of Charlotte, who is one of our P6 Council members. The School Council got to hold one of their meetings in the council chambers, where all the official Council business takes place. They were busy organising the next tuckshop and started a discussion about our school vision and values. They were given some excellent advice from Kate, Julie and our Deputy Lord Mayor about how to get some help from our local businesses. They even got to try on the formal robes that Council members wear on official engagements. A very enjoyable and worthwhile morning!
Today our School Council and PTA helpers ran their 3rd tuckshop of the year, this one with a Valentine’s theme. They were delighted with their profit of £200 and have plenty of stock for the next one, which will be before Easter. Huge thanks to the PTA members who turned out to help us and to Mrs Cooper for keeping it running so smoothly.
Thank you to our Digital Leaders who spoke to us today in assembly to remind us about keeping safe on the Internet. Safer Internet Day is happening next week and after the half term holidays we will be taking part in different activities in our classrooms to celebrate the day. This year Safer Internet Day’s theme will be ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online’. We look forward to our activities after half term.
