VE Medal Competition Winners

The Moy Park Challenge
Mon 11 May 2020Young Enterprise NI, in partnership with Moy Park Ltd is delighted to announce an exciting online venture for all pupils from the age of 8 to 12 years old to complete at home.
This venture, The Moy Park Challenge, is an online competition which will help pupils to develop skills such as creativity, thinking, problem solving, decision-making and using ICT as well as compete for the chance to win up to £50 as a prize! (see attached flyer).
Here’s what the pupil has to do:
They are set with the task of being a new Project Manager at Moy Park Ltd and their first job is to come up with a new and exciting chicken product or meal idea that will encourage people in Northern Ireland to eat more chicken! - as we all need to think about eating healthily and chicken is one of the best sources of protein.
1. Create a colourful and detailed ‘A4 poster’ advertising their chicken product ensuring their include a logo & slogan
2. Tell us about their idea and how they would encourage more people to eat chicken EITHER in a word document of no more than 200 words OR by a short video clip of no more than 60 seconds.

Eco Schools Home Challenge: Week 3 results!
Sun 10 May 2020Well done to the Yellow House this week - you have earned yourselves an impressive 70 house points with your brilliant efforts!
For the Yellow house, we had Ben, Ryan, Lucy, Sophie, Hanna, Harry and Mariana who kept themselves very busy making their names and initials with natural materials, bird watching, watering seedlings and hanging out washing.
For the Red and Blue houses, we had Rebekah, John, Beth, Will, Jonah and Ella who kept busy painting stones in their back garden, hanging out the washing and making fabulous bird houses as well as building dens and looking after their plants.
Finally, the Green house entries came from Jan, Jack and Zara who were very busy looking for minibeasts in their back garden and doing some planting.
A huge well done to everyone for continuing to get involved with our Eco School Home Challenge - it is so brilliant to see everyone taking part and finding the time to take photos and email them in. Thank you for your enthusiastic participation!
Week 3 house points:

Scones
Thu 07 May 2020What you need:
400g SR Flour
1 teasp baking powder
Pinch of salt
75 g butter, cold and cubed
70g caster sugar
170 ml buttermilk
flavour of your choice
what you need to do:
- preheat oven to 200 C
- put flour, baking powder and butter into a bowl. Rub in butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- add salt and sugar
- add whatever flavour you would like - sultanas, cherries, white chocolate and raspberry, mars bar....you choose!
- now add milk - you may not need all of the milk. You should have a soft, sticky dough
- Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface, knead very lightly until it comes together but do not overwork!
- flatten down with the palm of your hand to about 2 cm thick
- cut into as many rounds as possible with a cutter. it helps to dip the cutter in the flour to prevent the mixture sticking.
- place scones on a lightly floured baking sheet, brush with milk and bake for about 10 - 12 minutes. Your scones should be golden in colour and risen.

VE Day 75th Anniversary Celebrations
Tue 05 May 2020Since we are unable to celebrate VE Day together, we are running a competition for you to do at home. All you have to do is design your own medal. Use whatever materials you have at home – it could be cardboard and tinfoil, plasticine, play doh, clay, paper, toilet roll tubes….just get creative and see what you come up with!
There will be 3 categories –
- Nursery/P1 and P2
- P3 and P4
- P5/P6/P7
The most creative medal in each category will win a £10 gift voucher for Amazon
When you have completed your creative medal, send a picture of it to Mrs Taylor
All entries will be judged on TUESDAY 12th MAY and winners will be notified that day.
