As the weather (hopefully) continues to be as nice as it has been, we know there will be lots of you getting out and about. Sustrans and DfI (Department for Infrastructure) have provided us with activities and games to help us with staying safe when out on the roads, whether you are walking, cycling or scooting. There will be new activities posted each week for you.
This week there are 3 different tasks that have been saved into the Letters section of our website so please do check them out.
Road Safety Education Task: Child Cycle Safety
This week the focus is on cycle helmets – please ensure your child wears a cycle helmet every time they are riding their bicycle and that it is properly fitted and adjusted to reduce the impact of a fall or collision at slow speed. For further information on cycle safety: https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/cycling-safety
Sustrans: Scavenger Hunt
A fun activity to do when you’re out and about! There is a video to accompany this task as well: https://youtu.be/RIG8N38qKp4
Sustrans: Cycle Skills
Lots of different games to help you become more confident on your bicycle and here is the link to the video that accompanies this task: https://youtu.be/roVCJdjY_as
Another fabulous week of sunshine ensured that there were lots of outdoor activities happening and as usual there were lots of entries into our Home Challenge competition - another 29 photographs to show off our brilliant Eco work! The Yellow house is very quickly catching up with the Green house so well done to the yellow entrants!
For the Yellow house we had Ben, Ryan, Sophie, Lucy, Ben, Hanna and Carys who were painting stones they collected from the beach, looking after their fabulous vegetable garden, making junk art, going on a minibeast hunt on their bike and putting out the correct bin.
For the Green and Red house we had Jan, Rebekah, John, Will, Beth and even Will and Beth’s mum all taking part in lots of outdoor activities such as reading and ironing in the garden, pressing flowers and organising an outdoor treasure hunt for their little brother.
For the Blue house we had Ruby, Sarah and Lucas taking part in lots of excellent Eco Activities like turning off plugs, taking out the green bin and being an Eco warrior in his favourite place – the garden!

Another impressive week of Eco Schools activities happening in all your homes, gardens and neighbourhoods. It is brilliant to see people entering every single week and also a huge well done to those entering for the first time this week. The Green House really stepped up this week with Jan, Jasmine, Juliana, Alistair, Ailsa, Jack and Zara getting involved in painting stones, hanging out the washing, making their names with sticks and helping with the recycling. For the Red and Blue Houses, we had Rebekah, John and Sarah who were busy helping to put out the recycling bin, making a fabulous sign for their house and a brilliant animal feeder from junk materials. The Yellow House entries came from Hanna, Ben and Ryan who were enjoying time outside making their initials and rescuing a caterpillar. Special mention to Traffey the caterpillar, who has been made a new habitat and is now enjoying life at the Lamont house!
A huge thanks again to all the adults at home for taking the photos and finding the time to email them in, your effort and encouragement is very much appreciated. Keep up the fantastic Eco work Team Bocombra!
