New School Year 2020-21

Information is now available for the new school year (subject to change!)
Nursery and Year 1 packs are available to collect on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th June from the front of school 9.00am-12.00 noon
Year 2-7 Blended Learning information also available at these times.
Any packs or letters not collected will be posted.

Eco Schools Home Challenge: Week 8 results!
Mon 22 Jun 2020The last week of term is upon us and the beginning of the final week of our Eco Schools Challenge – Week 10! A huge thank you to everyone who got involved this week and sent in photos of some amazing Eco activities.
We have only one week left and it’s still close at the top with only 40 points between the top three. You have 7 days to get some more Eco activities completed in your houses and back gardens – I wonder which house will be crowned overall winners next Monday?
For the Red House, Jonno, Rebekah and John were reading outside (even in the rain showers!), being very creative with junk materials and taking excellent care of lots of different vegetable plants – some have already been shared with their neighbours! The Green House were showing off some very impressive gardening skills by growing radishes and sowing grass seed as well as making sure the plugs were being turned off – all thanks to Jack, Zara Jan, Alistair and Ailsa. The Blue House and the Yellow House were both involved in construction this week: making two fabulous bird houses – one from wood and one from a milk carton – and a wonderful solar powered water feature, as well as finding minibeasts and turning off light switches. Well done to everyone!

Music Tuition
Sun 21 Jun 2020Children who received upper strings, lower strings, brass or woodwind tuition should keep their instrument at home during the summer break and keep practising. The Music Service are working hard to establish how tuition will be delivered when we return to school. Please be advised that the Music Service will issue refunds to schools for any shortfall of Music Service delivery for the academic year 2019 -20.
Any Year 7 pupil wishing to continue their instrument in their post primary school should keep their instrument and any Year 7 pupil who does not want to continue tuition should return their instrument to Bann House.

Libraries NI is delighted to announce details of Silly Squad, Summer Reading Challenge 2020 produced by The Reading Agency and delivered by libraries which will take place from Monday 15 June. The Silly Squad, Summer Reading Challenge, is a free, exciting way to keep young people aged 4 - 11 years reading during the summer months.
Silly Squad is a celebration of funny books, happiness and laughter. This year the Challenge will be delivered through a fun, immersive and safe online platform. The aim is to encourage children to challenge themselves to read any number of books which makes them happy, in digital or print format, an eBook borrowed from the Libraries NI online catalogue or books they already have at home.
Throughout the summer there will be online activities, videos, quizzes, games and rewards to unlock along the way. Every child who completes their own Challenge will receive a downloadable certificate.

Eco Schools Home Challenge: Week 8 results!
Mon 15 Jun 2020Well done to everyone who took part in lots of excellent Eco activities this week. We only have 2 weeks left of our Home Challenge and I am excited to see what else you will get up to as we come to the end of this very strange school year - you can repeat some of the activities you have already done if you want to.
The Yellow and Blue house are sneaking up on the Green House and it’s all very close with only 10 points separating the top three houses!
Thank you to the adults at home for taking photos and encouraging your children to take part.
For the Green House, Jack and Zara went on a nature hunt. For the Red House, Rebekah, John and Jonno were busy putting up bird feeders in their garden and painting stones and shells that they collected on their holidays to take pride of place in their garden. Sarah, Sophie, Leah, Jacob, Olivia and Lucas earned lots of points for the Blue House by hanging out washing, reading a fabulous Eco book called ‘Be Green’, catching minibeasts under their oil tank, growing caterpillars and recycling topsoil. If you look closely you'll be able to see frog in one of Sarah's photos! For the Yellow House Ben and Ryan were being very helpful around the house by sorting the recycling and turning off plugs.

Sports Day 2020!
Sun 14 Jun 2020Although we can't all be together in school we thought it would be good fun to have a 'virtual' Sports Day at some point next week. You can choose the day that suits you best during the week, hopefully the sun will shine! You can try all of the activities or just choose some that you like. Everyone in your house can take part, if they want to, or you can take part with a couple of friends as long as you remember to stay socially distanced.

What is this for?
The world is full of many wonderful things, people and experiences but we can forget to focus on these when times are hard. This is a place for you to think about, and be grateful for, the good things! What are you thankful for? Family and friends, petting a puppy, a favourite meal, bike rides, a sunny day?
Keeping a journal has been proven to help increase happiness and lower stress.
It really doesn’t matter if an event is something as simple as eating your favourite sweets, playing a game with your friends or hearing your favourite song on a playlist. If it made you feel happy – then it’s important. Write it down or draw it and try and explain what it was about the event that made you happy!

Eco Schools Home Challenge: Week 7 results!
Mon 08 Jun 2020Lots of great Eco activities happening in back gardens and neighbourhoods so well done and thank you to everyone who sent in photos. It was brilliant to see some brand new entrants joining in on the Eco Challenge – welcome! The Yellow House is creeping up on the Green House and there are only 10 points between them!
For the Green House, Jan went on a very successful minibeast hunt. For the Red House, Rebekah, John and Jonno were keeping busy working and painting outside, turning off chargers and watching the Swashbuckle episode about recycling – it’s a great reminder of what items we can recycle and there are more than you think! Maisy, Poppy, Tommy, Mikey and Sarah were earning points for the Blue House by doing lots of fabulous gardening in their brand new polytunnel and hanging out washing. For the Yellow House, we had Lucy, Sophie, Ben, Ryan and Hanna Z who were taking part in a range of Eco activities such as helping with sorting the recycling, putting out the bin and hanging out the washing.
Keep up the great work everyone – 3 weeks left to join in if you would like to!
