• P6 Football Success

  A huge congratulations to our P6 football team who competed in today’s tournament at Brownlow Collage.

  The team won every match they played and, in the final, they managed to win 8-1!  They were overall winners and had a great day out despite very wet conditions. Thank you to the coaches, Mrs Oliver & Mrs Cahoon for their encouragement and tactics. Well done everyone!

  

• World Drumming Workshop

  Mrs Reilly's class had a great morning taking part in the World Drumming Workshop with the tutors from Bann House EA Music Service. Everyone really enjoyed playing different rhythms on the djembe drums.

  

• 5 aside football tournament

  Well done to the football boys who took part competitively in today’s tournament.  Some great goals were scored and we managed to not concede any goals.  Great play!

  

• Art club on Friday afternoons

  P6 and P7 pupils took part in an Art Club on Friday afternoons and made a clay pot. They enjoyed using clay to make a coil pot and then painted their pot once it was dry. They finished it off by glazing it with PVA glue and took them home once they were dry. Some fantastic and colourful creations!

  

• Northern Ireland Cross Country Finals

  Today our girls team and 2 individual boys represented Bocombra at the NI cross country finals. The competition was very stiff but everyone raced exceptionally well and should be very proud of themselves. 

  

• World Book Day 'The Masked Reader'

  This year we celebrated World Book Day with our competition 'The Masked Reader'. Everyone from Nursery to Year 7 was given the challenge of making a mask of their favourite book character. As can be seen from the photographs, everyone rose to the challenge and showed their creative and artistic skills. After our mask parade, the winners from each class were announced and they received a prize goody bag. To share our reading and writing skills, Key Stage 2 children read stories to children in their Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 reading partner class. Well done to everyone for making a superb effort!

  

• Local Author Lynda Haffey visits Bocombra

  We were delighted to welcome local author Lynda Haffey to Bocombra. Lynda kindly shared her story with everyone in school from the children in Nursery to pupils in P.7. Everyone enjoyed hearing Lynda read 'The Mindful Sloth', engaged with how Bob the sloth can help us learn a few life lessons and sang along with part of the story too. Lynda kindly answered some questions from Key Stage 2 children about how to write stories and become an author. A huge thank you to Lynda for inspiring the children to read books and write their own stories before we celebrate World Book Day next week.

  

• Tri Heroes at Bocombra

  Our cross country team took part in Triathlon training before Christmas and they finally received their certificates in a recent assembly. The reason for holding on to their certificates was because we had been asked to wait until the launch of the TriHeroes promotional video on Triathlon Ireland’s social media channels. Triathlon Ireland have chosen Bocombra to be the only school in their video to promote their TriHeroes programme which is a great achievement. • Winner of Credit Union art competition in Year 4!

  Well done to Sarah in Year 4 who won the Credit Union Art competion at Local level (Portadown), Chapter (Northern Ireland) and Regional level (all Ireland).  She collected her prize at an awards ceremony at Croke Park at the weekend.  Well done Sarah, everyone in Bocombra is very proud of you!

   

  

• School Council hard at work!

  This week our School Council were hard at work cleaning our bike shed. They managed to get some much needed help from our Sustrans officer Dave and did amazingly well at scrubbing the dirt off the sides of our bike shed. They are hoping to put some colourful posters to encourage more pupils to use the bike shed to store their bicycles and scooters. They were rewarded with a hard earned hot chocolate after their efforts, which was badly needed to warm their freezing hands!
