This afternoon twenty five Year 7 pupils travelled the short distance to Lisnisky Care Home with Mrs Maxwell and Mrs Dunlop to sing carols and Christmas songs. Everyone enjoyed entertaining the residents and we had a little chat with them at the end to wish them Merry Christmas. Thank you for the treats the children received for their beautiful singing.
It was lovely to have everyone from Nursery to Year 7 in the assembly hall for our carol service this morning. P.5 pupils Anna, Evie, Harper, George, Amelie and Fleur narrated the Christmas story while P.6 pupils Alexis and Daniel read bible verses. Year 7 musicians entertained us with two lovely pieces. Brass and woodwind pupils Noah, Alfie, Charlotte, Abby, Tommy and Katie played Twinkle, Twinkle. String pupils Penny, Alistair, Jorja, Ava, Jorgie, Penny, Kate, Phoebe and John played Silent Night. Well done to everyone who lead the carol service helping us all remember the true meaning of this special time of year.
We were delighted to welcome Lynda Haffey back to Bocombra to read her new book 'The Jolly Jug' as a treat before Christmas. Everyone in Year 3 to Year 7 thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story about different breeds of dogs, their personalities and the challenges they face finding their forever home. The lesson we can learn from the story is to just be ourselves and despite of our differences we will accepted by others. Well done to Joshua and Carson who won our school competition which Lynda kindly judged. They thought of titles for another book which could be written about animals. Joshua's idea was 'The Messy Monkey' and Carson's was 'Professor Duck and the Earth Quack'.
Today was the final day of our Triathlon club, coached by Sam from Triathlon Ireland. The pupils have been enjoying learning how to improve their running and cycling, as well as their transitioning skills. They ended their training block with 2 races today - one girls race and one boys race. Well done to everyone who took part today in the cold and windy weather and special thanks to the parents and grandparents who came to cheer the pupils on.
Special congratulations to the top 3 finishers in the boys and girls.
The boys travelled the short distance to Edenvilla today (05/12/23) to compete in the Portadown Times Tournament. Our first tournament of the season and what a tournament it would turn out to be. We had a bumpy start losing our first match to King’s Park but the boys demonstrated excellent determination and resolve to win most of the remaining games bar a draw against Edenderry, Banbridge which was a very tight goalless match. Although we had equal points with King’s Park we were crowned overall winners having scored the highest number of goals.
I would like to commend the boys on their behaviour, effort and team spirit. They should be extremely proud of themselves.
Well done boys!
A very cold and icy run was faced by our cross country team today at Lurgan Park. Every runner ran incredibly well in some very tough conditions and difficult course with quite a few hills. Well done to everyone who completed the race, I think it might take us a few hours longer to properly thaw out. Special thanks to Mrs Hannath for accompanying us to the race and for those parents who came to cheer us on, your support is very much appreciated.
Bocombra PS and Nursery Unit will be affected by the planned teacher strike action on Wednesday 29th November. Teachers have been instructed by their respective Unions to take this action on the morning of Wednesday 29th November up until 12.00 noon. Due to a lack of adequate supervision, the school will be unable to open safely and as a consequence the school will be closed for all pupils until 12.00 noon. At midday children will be collected by staff in the playground and at the usual entrances. The rest of the day will then run normally, including school dinner and packed lunch time. The pupils will be marked as an authorised absence for the morning session and a similar attendance mark will be given to those pupils who cannot make arrangements to attend the afternoon session. As our school kitchen require dinner numbers in advance of the strike, school meals booked for Wednesday and not consumed will not be refunded. This unprecedented action has not been taken lightly and is in line with other Public Sector action. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you in advance for your support.
