This morning a group of Primary 6 & 7 boys and girls walked to Portadown College to take part in a rugby skills workshop. Alistair Toal, Portadown RFC CCRO and Portadown College coach, led the session. We joined Edenderry PS and Moyallon PS in learning how to fall safely in a tackle, how to tackle correctly and how to run and pass. The children had the opportunity to use equipment such as tackle pads to practise their skills. They also had a tour of the College facilities and they met some of the 1st XV players including a number of our own past pupils. The session was rounded off with some games outside on the pitches and everyone agreed it had been a fantastic morning. Thanks to Alistair and all the College players who looked after us during the session.

Before half term, our School Council were kindly invited to visit Craigavon Civic Centre for a reception hosted by the Deputy Lord Mayor and organised by Kate Evans, who happens to be the aunt of one our School Council members Sophie. We also got to meet another one of our local councillors, Julie Flaherty, who also happens to be an aunt of Charlotte, who is one of our P6 Council members. The School Council got to hold one of their meetings in the council chambers, where all the official Council business takes place. They were busy organising the next tuckshop and started a discussion about our school vision and values. They were given some excellent advice from Kate, Julie and our Deputy Lord Mayor about how to get some help from our local businesses. They even got to try on the formal robes that Council members wear on official engagements. A very enjoyable and worthwhile morning!
Today our School Council and PTA helpers ran their 3rd tuckshop of the year, this one with a Valentine’s theme. They were delighted with their profit of £200 and have plenty of stock for the next one, which will be before Easter. Huge thanks to the PTA members who turned out to help us and to Mrs Cooper for keeping it running so smoothly.
Thank you to our Digital Leaders who spoke to us today in assembly to remind us about keeping safe on the Internet. Safer Internet Day is happening next week and after the half term holidays we will be taking part in different activities in our classrooms to celebrate the day. This year Safer Internet Day’s theme will be ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online’. We look forward to our activities after half term.
As you will be aware we plan to host our Parent/Teacher Meetings – Monday 3rd February – Thursday 6th February between 1.00pm and 4.00pm. You should already have received notification of your personal meeting dates and times.
To facilitate these important meetings school will close after serving lunch. Children will all go home at 12.45pm each afternoon this week.
Given the volume of children leaving school at 12.45pm it may be prudent to park outside the school grounds and walk where possible. All other extra-curricular activities (including Year 5 and 6 swimming) will not take place during this week. Please plan to attend.
Nursery and Year 1 Admissions September 2025 - Extended until Monday 27th January at 4.00pm.

A huge thank you to Ceira Eakin from Indie and Willow for sponsoring our new Cross Country vests. We finally have enough vests for the whole team, which is a great help when organising and pinning bibs on race day. We got to put them to the test during our final run today and our runners definitely looked the part.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
