On Friday 30th September we had a great coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer. It was lovely to see the hall full of visitors and everyone enjoying themselves. Thank you to our School Council for organising the event and for everyone who donated the tasty tray bakes.
Our pupils enjoyed coming to school wearing green and bringing a treat break.
An amazing £1623 in total - thank you very much everyone!
The PTA kindly granted our request to buy some new untuned and tuned percussion instruments for use by everyone from Nursery to Year 7. The very generous amount of £948.44 is much appreciated. It has been great to supplement the instruments we already have with class sets of 30 claves, triangles, tambourines and bells for Foundation and Key Stage 1 classes. Key Stage 2 are able to improve their skills with sets of 8 tambourines, woodblocks, triangles, maracas, hand drums, sleigh bells and glockenspiels. Thank you very much to the PTA for their generosity. Have a look at Mrs Dunlop's class, Mrs Brown's class and Mrs Warnock's children in Nursery making great use of our lovely new instruments.
Today our School Council from last year helped to hand over our new outdoor seating area to the newly elected School Council. Ella in P6C had the very important job of cutting the ribbon and officially declared the outdoor seating open! Last year's School Council worked very hard throughout the year to raise money for our new seating area, which has special access for wheelchairs.
We are excited to get to use this area in break and lunch times as well as in our Forest School sessions. Thank you to everyone who helped raise money for this fantastic resource.
Keep your eyes peeled as we plan to add to this outdoor area - our new School Council will be thinking of some great fundraising events for this year!
Mrs Flack's P6 class visited Portadown Library yesterday. They enjoyed learning about all the different services that the library offer. They had a tour of the library and they saw what is available in the library. They saw the computers that are available for researching information, the study room for anyone who wishes to revise or work within the library, the large books with copies of old Portadown Times, the very large selection of books that are in different sections such as children's fiction and non-fiction and the machines that are used for registering the books you borrow or return. It was very interesting and informative as they learnt how books are organised in the library so it is easy to find what you are looking for. They also heard about the online service for borrowing books and audio books. Before leaving the library, those who had a library card were allowed to borrow a book. Thank you to the staff in Portadown Library for making the visit so enjoyable and encouraging the pupils to visit again.
Today we held our annual School Council elections and the speeches and voting took place in the Assembly Hall. There were 45 candidates who put themselves forward to be elected for their year group and each one spoke very well in front of their audience. There were some fantastic ideas proposed and the pupils had obviously worked hard when preparing their speeches. Thank you to everyone who took part and to those parents who helped them prepare.
Mrs Craig had a busy morning counting all the votes and once the votes were all counted and verified, the winning candidates were announced after lunch in each classroom.
Our new School Council are:
Year 5: Tami Black, Naomi Hunter, Carson Wright and Ted Taylor
Year 6: Amy McFarland, Penny Knipe, Will Breheny and Mikey Hannath
Year 7: Zara Cousins, Hannah Cromie, Harry Major and Theo Burnett
They will hold their first meeting next week and Mrs Craig is very excited about what the year ahead will hold for Bocombra with these brilliant pupils at the helm.
We are all saddened by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen and are grateful for her remarkable service to our nation throughout her seventy year reign. The Governors, staff, parents and pupils wish to send their thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences to The Royal Family at this sad time. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
