Today we were delighted to welcome Dave, our Sustrans Schools Officer, to take a special Ditch The Dark day assembly. Dave gave out some prizes to those pupils who made extra special effort to dress in bright clothes and introduced us to Buzz, his folding bicycle.
He talked to us about the benefits of active journeys to school and how we can stay safe as the mornings and afternoons get darker.
Fitness Freddy came to school today to help us finish our fundraising with Cash for Kids. Every class had a great time exercising to music and singing along at the same time! Everyone enjoyed the fun in the hall and afterwards they received a fruit bag and bottle of water to help them recover! Thanks go to Freddy for making it a great end to all the hard work.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraising, so far we have raised £12879 which is fantastic. This will provide us with lots of new interactive whiteboards. All funds will be totalled by noon tomorrow and the winner will be announced on Monday.
For Week 2 of Cash for Kids we had a Party-Thon day. Everyone either took part in a Dance-a-Thon or a World Cup Football Tournament. Rachel from Portadown Dance College kept the dancers moving whilst the sun shone on the footballers. Everyone had a super time exercising and having fun. Each child also received a party bag with treats to give them the energy to keep going!
Today 24 pupils took part in the first Flahavans Primary School Cross Country League race of the season at Portadown Rugby Club. We faced some very stiff competition from 20 other schools in the Southern Area but everyone ran fantastic races and should be very proud of themselves.
There were over 400 pupils taking part today and we had some top 10 finishers which is an excellent result!
The results are in and we had some brilliant fast times from both main team and fun runners and lots of top 10 finishers.
Currently our girls team are in second place, only 3 points behind Kings Park and the boys team are in first place! A fantastic first race of the season and every single runner should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

As part of our involvement in the Sustrans programme, we were able to avail of some excellent Bikeability training for 16 Year 6 pupils. They were given cycling training in both the school playground and on some actual roads near school. They learned how to cycle safely when there is traffic and how to make sure they are safe when cycling to and from school on both the pavement and the road.
Congratulations to those children who cycled or scooted to school this week and discovered a tag on their bike or scooter. They were rewarded for their efforts with a special Sustrans prize and were delighted to have been chosen.
Thanks to everyone who helped kick off our Walktober month with lots of active journeys - even in the rain!
